Bagha Jatin, conceived Jatindranath Mukherjee, was an Indian Bengali progressive against British principle. He was the chief pioneer of the Yugantar party that was the focal relationship of progressives in Bengal. He was the foremost pioneer of the Yugantar party that was the focal relationship of progressives in Bengal.

Jatin was born to Sharatshashi and Umeshchandra Mukherjee in Kayagram, a town in the Kushtia subdivision of Nadia area in what is presently Bangladesh. Subsequent to passing the Entrance examination in 1895 from Krishnanagar Anglo-vernacular School (A.V. School), Jatin joined the Calcutta Central College (now Khudiram Bose College), to contemplate Fine Arts. In the meantime, he took exercises in steno composing with Mr. Atkinson.

In 1900, Jatin married Indubala Banerjee of Kumarkhali Upazila in Kushtia; they had four children: Atindra (1903–1906), Ashalata (1907–1976), Tejendra (1909–1989), and Birendra (1913–1991).

When World War I broke out, in September 1914, an International Pro-India Committee was shaped at Zürich. Soon it converges into a greater body, to frame the Berlin Committee, or the Indian Independence Party, driven by Virendranath Chattopadhyaya assumed name Chatto: it picked up the help of the German government and had as individuals noticeable Indian progressives abroad, including pioneers of the Ghadar Party. Activists of the Ghadar Party began leaving for India, to join the proposed uprising inside India amid World War I, with the assistance of arms, ammo, and assets guaranteed by the German government.
